How To Install HP Printer? [Complete Guide]

To install an HP printer, you need a computer with a working Internet connection. Once that is fulfilled, the steps are so simple. Open a browser on your computer and enter the official HP support page. Enter the HP printer model number in the search bar and open the page. Click the Downloads option on the page and then select the driver to complete the download. While installing the driver, when the connection screen opens, you can select the type of connection you want for the HP printer.

If the HP printer you have comes with an installation CD, you will not need to go through all the steps to download the printer driver.

  • Place the installation CD in the CD/DVD drive on your computer.
  • Wait for the computer to run the installation CD.
  • When the Autoplay window opens, click the option to begin the installation on the screen.

HP Printer Troubleshooting

Like any printer, the HP printer also goes through a rough patch now and then. But not all problems are unsolvable. There are some common problems the HP printer encounters and they can be resolved by some simple troubleshooting steps. 


The most commonly occurring problems with the HP printer are the paper jam and paper feeding problems. Apart from that, the simple ones are printer offline, printer not printing, printer not connecting to Wi-Fi, etc.



Method 1: Disable The Offline Feature

  • Open the Control Panel window on your computer.
  • Click the Devices and Printers option from the Control Panel window.
  • You will see the list of the printers connected to your computer.
  • You have to do a right-click on the printer and select the See what's printing? option.
  • See if you have any pending print jobs and make sure to remove them from the list.
  • Click on the checkbox to disable the option Use Printer Offline.

  • Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the official HP support page.
  • Open the Downloads folder on your computer and run the HPPSdr.exe file.

  • Click the Yes button when the tool tells you to turn on updates for the printer.
