Canon PIXMA MX492 is an All-in-One printer mainly recommended for home and office printing. Canon PIXMA MX492 can be easily connected to smartphones, laptops and computers through a wireless network. While using it, you may face printing, connectivity and scanning issues, etc. Let's see some troubleshooting methods to resolve Canon PIXMA MX492 printing problems.


Is your printer not printing? Then try these simple steps given below to resolve this issue.

Check the Ink Status from your Computer:

  • Hit on the Start menu and select Control Panel --> Hardware and Sound --> Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your printer model and select Printing Preferences.
  • On the Maintenance tab, click View Printer Status.
  • Click on Estimated ink levels to check the ink level.

FINE Cartridges replacement:

If your Canon PIXMA MX492 printer’s ink status is low or empty, replace the FINE cartridges.

  • Check whether your Canon MX492 printer is turned on.
  • Open the front door and then the paper output cover.
  • The FINE cartridge holder moves to the replacement position.
  • Remove the empty FINE ink cartridges.
  • Grab the FINE ink cartridges and remove the orange tape from the nozzle.
  • Insert the new color FINE cartridges into the left and black into the right slot.
  • Push each cartridge until it fits into its place.
  • Close the paper output cover and then the front door.

Clear Paper Jam:

  • Follow the below steps and remove the jammed paper inside the FINE cartridge holder.
  • Turn off your Canon MX492 printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer.
  • Drag the paper output tray and open the cover.

Note: Do not touch the transparent film. If you touch it with paper or hand, it can cause damage to the printer.

  • Check whether the paper jam is under the FINE cartridge holder.
  • If that’s the case, move the FINE cartridge holder to the right or left.
  • Hold the jammed paper firmly using both hands and slowly pull out the paper so that it will not tear.
  • Check whether you have removed all the jammed paper inside the FINE cartridge holder.
  • Check for small bits and remove them out from the printer.
  • Close the cover.

Clean the Printheads:

  • Make sure the printer is turned on.
  • Press the Setup button.
  • Select Maintenance and press the OK button.
  • Select Cleaning and press OK.
  • The printer starts cleaning the print head.
  • Now, check the print head condition.


Is your Canon MX492 printer not printing wirelessly?  Follow the below steps.

Some of the standard troubleshooting methods:

  • Check whether the router and the printer are turned on.
  • Ensure the Wi-Fi icon is displayed on the LCD screen on the printer.
  • Check whether the Canon MX492 printer is connected to the wireless router.
  • While the printer is connected to the computer temporarily using USB, ensure that the USB cable is connected correctly.
  • Check whether the firewall is disabled.

Cancel All Documents:

  • Open Windows Start.
  • Select Control Panel --> Hardware and Sound --> Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on the Canon PIXMA MX492 printer icon and select See what's printing.
  • Select Cancel All Documents.

  • Go to the Start menu and type IJ Network Tool in the search bar.
  • Launch IJ Network Tool.
  • Go to Printers and select Canon MX492.
  • On the View menu, select Status.
  • When the status screen appears, check the printer status.
  • If the signal strength is good, redo your router setup.

Reset your printer:

  • Check whether the power cord is perfectly connected to the printer.
  • Press the Power button to switch on the printer.
  • Turn off your Canon printer by pressing the power button again.
  • Remove the power cord from your printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 15 minutes and plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Turn on your printer and check whether the issue is resolved.


Is your Canon PIXMA MX492 printer not responding? Then try the below steps to solve this issue.

Configure the correct printer port:

  • Press Windows key + R on your keyboard; a Run box will appear.
  • Type Control and click OK.
  • Under View by, select Large icon.
  • Click on the Devices and Printers option.
  • Right-click on your Canon printer and choose Printer Properties.
  • Click Change properties and go to the Port tab.
  • Examine the port that contains the name of your Canon PIXMA MX492 printer.
  • Click Apply --> General --> Print Test Page.

Disable the Offline Printer Option:

  • Hit on the Start menu and type Control Panel in the search bar.

Is your scanner is not working?  Then follow these simple troubleshooting methods to solve this problem.

  • Check whether your printer is turned on.
  • Try to connect the USB cable to a different port on your computer.
  • If the USB cable is connected to a USB hub, remove it and connect it to the USB port.
  • Check the network status and restart your computer.

Scan Gear:

Follow the below steps to use ScanGear for scanning.

  • Check whether the MP Drivers are installed. In case they are not installed, install them using the Setup CD-ROM. If your computer doesn’t have a CD drive, you can get the software from Canon’s official website. 
  • On the application menu, select your printer.
  • Note:  If your printer is mentioned multiple times, select the one which doesn't include WIA.

  • Make sure your application supports TWAIN.
  • Note:  In case your application does not support TWAIN, you cannot start Scan Gear.

  • Scan and save images with IJ Scan Utility and open the scanned file in your application.
